More info on this project on my website: http://simonbox.info/index.php/astronomy
This is the first video documenting my project to instrument my Sky-Watcher 10" telescope on a Dobsonian mount, in order to enable auto tracking and go to functionality.

@oliethefolie Hi I ...
@oliethefolie Hi I have never used the sky-watcher? SynScan system so it's difficult for me to make a personal recommendation. However the reviews I have seen are very positive. If you have the money and want something that "just works" then an off the shelf system is for you. I would only recommend "home-brewing" if (like me) you get a lot of enjoyment out of designing and building the thing.
Would you recommend ...
Would you recommend getting the version with the auto-track if you have the money??
@joeyisfunny Yes, I ...
@joeyisfunny Yes, I did! I know it's a reflector but my brain does not? always play nicely. Ho-hum.
Did you just call ...
Did you just call this a refracting telescope at the beginning???? 0_0
@smithyduk Hi, yes ...
@smithyduk Hi, yes they are missing a few degrees. Obviously that's an issue on the Azimuth measurement. Still thinking on? a practical workaround for that...
@TelescopeNerd cool ...
@TelescopeNerd cool. Hows it coming along? Also do? those magentopots have 360 degrees of rotation or are you limited to slightly less on the Az?
hi looks good i ...
hi looks good i have the jem red angle finders cost me around 80 quid for both is? very acurate for the dob i ,have which is the 12" model
@smithyduk Hi, ...
@smithyduk Hi, using the sever/client code available on-line as the basis for the program. You're right about the adc. Resolution is way to low on the 10 bit. I have some 24bit chips? I'm playing with at the moment...
Interesting. Are ...
Interesting. Are you using the old server/client system or writing your own plugin?
Plus you'll definatley need to add a 24bit? adc to that arduino. as 10bits just aint gonna cut it.
@crusheroftheist I ...
@crusheroftheist I think the? Magnetopots cost about £12 (GBP) so yes much cheaper than encoders.
